The Cormorant Drop-Leaf Dining Table features a base similar to that of my distinctive Cormorant Console table. On this dining version a much larger elliptical top is oriented to allow for this versatile and compact gate-legged, drop leaf design. When closed, the four gate legs nest alongside the central base, becoming part of the sculptural composition. When open, the legs pivot out to support each leaf allowing seating four as many as 6. The base is walnut and the gatelegs swing on traditional hand made finger joint hinges that each pivot on a central brass rod (see final image) . The top is made of solid mahogany and its leaves mate with traditional rule joints; the leaves pivot on solid brass hinges. The mahogany is finished with an ebonizing dye and finished with a durable catalyzed varnish. The walnut base is finished with a hand-rubbed hardwax oil.
