Description
This simple, modern desk is made of spalted maple. Maple, a hard native wood here in Maine becomes, at times, infected with a fungal growth that causes the distinctive colors and fine black "borderlines" that is highly desirable; this is "spalted". The top of the desk is made of thick cut veneer of this wood. The spalted maple veneer continues down the sides of the case creating the "waterfall effect" of the wood's continuous grain. The base, made of solid maple selected from the darker heartwood of the tree, connects to the top case by way of visible wedges and the mating of the extended front legs to notches in the case. The wide center compartment of the desk has a finished panel on its backside, while the two flanking compartments are open. This desk could be created in a variety of other woods as well and is customizable in terms of its size, finish as well as other features such as drawers etc. Please contact me to discuss.
