Description
A masterclass in elegant utility, this rare Model 4856 Snack Table by Edward Wormley for Dunbar distills mid-century American luxury into a single, sculptural form. Light in hand yet rich in detail, this is one of Wormley’s most charming—and the hardest to find—of small tables.
The standout feature is the stunning birch burl top, a swirling, organic landscape of grain framed by a warm walnut border. Up close, the burl reads almost like topography—etched, dimensional, and unmistakably crafted with intention. The visual depth of the burl offsets the table’s sleek silhouette, making the surface feel like an art piece in its own right.
Rising from a graceful, tapered walnut stem, the table sits on a polished chrome tri-leg base—clean, modern, and beautifully balanced. At the center of the top sits Wormley’s signature flourish: a polished chrome handle, sculptural and functional, allowing the piece to be lifted and carried effortlessly from room to room. Designed to bring guests a drink or a snack with a sense of ceremony, it embodies Wormley’s belief that even everyday rituals deserve thoughtful design.
This model is exceptionally rare, especially in such striking condition, and showcases the refined materials and architectural simplicity that make Dunbar furniture so collectible. At once practical and poetic, this snack table is a jewel-like accent that elevates any seating arrangement.
