English 19th Century Ebonized Tilt-top Tea Table
-
Description
Dimensions: 27 ⅝” H x 23 ½” W x 23 ½” D
A magnificent English Victorian tea table (late 19th century) of ebonized wood and inlaid with mother-of-pearl on the surface. Deep ebonized color & texture of the wood contrasts beautifully with the kaleidoscopic inlay of mother-of-pearl tesserae arranged in cresting waves around the circumference and as larger pieces of shell accenting the handpainted floral decoration in the center. A turned wood support column is given definition by little rings of gold as it widens to a tripod base decorated with scrolling motifs. Note that the tilting mechanism has been stabilized at some point in history, meaning the table is fixed flat and no longer pivots. Please view the detailed images to see the current condition. -
