A fine example of a mid 18th century (circa 1765) George III mahogany card table of serpentine form having an exceptional original patina.

This table consists of a finely figured mahogany serpentine shaped top of exceptional original patina with delicate herringbone stringing to the edge and outer mahogany crossbanding.

This leads down to a serpentine shaped edge of finely carved egg and dart design, the top opening to reveal a deep red baize surface with outer mahogany crossbanding, one of the rear legs opening to support the top.

The frieze also of serpentine form is veneered with various exotic woods of the period having a satinwood panel to the centre with boxwood stringing and bandings, small satinwood panels to either side with stringing and bandings with a finely carved gadrooned moulding below.

The table is supported on four fluted square tapered legs terminating with spade feet.

In our opinion this is a transitional piece of furniture as the design of this table is unusual having Chippendale, Hepplewhite and Adam influences, the top being of Chippendale influence whereas the legs having influences of Hepplewhite and Adam.

This table is in very good original condition for age, is of stable construction and can go straight into a home.
