Finn Juhl Model B065 teak extendable dining table for Bovirke, Denmark, 1950s

$ 7,460
  • Description
    There is a poise to this table that is immediately apparent. The rectangular top, with its gently rounded edges, appears to float above four tapered legs that rise to meet it through elegantly shaped bracket joints, a signature detail that gives the connection between horizontal and vertical a sculptural inflection rather than a merely structural one. The proportions are precise and restrained: the top is thin, the legs slender, the apron shallow, and the overall effect is one of composed lightness. Extended with its two additional leaves, the table stretches to a generous length without losing its sense of balance.

    The table is constructed in solid teak throughout, finished to a warm, even tone that allows the long, straight grain of the wood to read clearly across the top surface. The most distinctive element of the construction lies in the corner brackets that join the apron to the legs: each is shaped with a gentle concave curve and secured with three visible dark wooden dowels, a detail that is at once decorative and structural, drawing the eye to the point of greatest tension in the design. The tapered legs are turned to a fine, conical profile. The two extension leaves slide out from beneath the main top on a concealed rail mechanism, integrating seamlessly when deployed. The underside is cleanly finished, consistent with the standards of Danish cabinet-making of the period.

    The table is the BO65 model, designed by Finn Juhl in 1952 and produced by the Copenhagen-based manufacturer Bovirke. It belongs to the body of work in which Juhl pursued his distinctive approach to furniture as a sculptural discipline, one in which joints and transitions are treated as opportunities for formal expression rather than concealed necessities. The shaped brackets of this table are characteristic of his thinking, transforming a functional connection into a moment of visual pleasure.

    The table is in very good condition, having been professionally restored and refinished by our internal atelier. The teak surfaces present evenly, with minor signs of use consistent with age. The extension mechanism operates smoothly and both leaves are retained.
