Description
A very sleek and beautifully designed table from the Art Deco period, the table features an all-over rosewood veneer set in striking arrays highlighted with satinwood stringer inlays around mother-of-pearl inlays and embellished with custom bronze mounts on the legs and feet. It is intricate and shows the careful eye of a designer and the practiced hand of the fabricator working closely together for a very fine result. Note the carefully laid out and executed pattern of rays emanating from the center-most point of inlaid mother-of-pearl in the table top, this large panel executed with such precise and minute seams between the veneers, all surrounded by a stringer-inlay. Similarly, on the outside of each leg stretcher is a very fine inlaid design of scrolling satinwood around a marquetry of squares with the grains set perpendicular to one another while singular points of mother-of-pearl inlay highlight the inner corners of each connection.
The top is designed to allow two extension leaves to be added, either end withdrawing approximately 22" to receive leaves - these have since been lost, but a skilled craftsman could certainly make leaves to increase seating space. The surface is finished in a brilliant high-gloss lacquer and presents beautifully, overall being well-preserved with rather minimal use indicators considering the age. It was designed to be easily and safely taken apart using large steel bolts with eyelets that release the legs from the table top. A fine acquisition.
Measurements: 72 7/8" W x 28 7/8" H x 37 7/8" D
Condition Report:
Good overall surface condition with vibrant color throughout; light scratches and scuffs to lacquered finish; half-moon 1 1/8" x 3/8" lacquer filled edge blemish; a few other scuffs and abrasions to the table top; minor veneer patches to leg columns in a few spots; we are happy to send additional images of every blemish or also to video chat upon request. Table has extendable ends that can hold leaves if you choose to have additional leaves made for the table (each withdraws 22"). -
