Description
A FINE GILT-BRONZE TWO-TIER MARBLE GUERIDON IN THE LOUIS XVI STYLE
France, circa 19th century
Item # 407PFR27S
An exquisite two-tier gueridon of simply delightful proportions, the entire table is only 13" wide at the top and sits at a proper presentation height of just under 35", ideal for the display of sculpture and plants. Rather early, this 19th century table is made in the Louis XVI style with a checkered gilt-bronze gallery surrounding worn original gray marble stone in both tiers. Over each leg is a very finely cast and chiseled Ram's heads, the legs each terminating in a single hooved sabot over a tripart stretcher base raising an acanthus finial from a rocaille central rosette. The surface remains untouched with the gentle ravages of time creating a vibrant surface patina throughout.
Measurements: 34 11/16" H x 15" approximate D/W at base; 13" W from ram head to ram head
Condition Report:
Lower tier of marble with several repaired cracks (quite old); chips and discolorations to stones on both tiers; loss of gilt throughout with patinated bronze coming through; trace verdigris oxidization around the edges of the base and feet; slight wiggle due to the way it was constructed, though it remains sturdy and in fine condition for regular use in the interior. A fine presentation ready to place. -
