Description
Dimensions: 21 ¼” H x 24 ½” W x 24 ½” D
A French Louis XVI style mahogany low table/coffee table dating to the early-20th century, in the most incredible marquetry complemented by a stunning marble top. The disc of “breccia pernice” type marble shows delightful patches of mauve and butter-yellow stone, complemented by a pierced brass gallery around the circumference. This timeless table design matches earlier bouillotte tables–made for playing cards–scaling the proportions down to coffee table size to fit a living room arrangement. There are two small drawers tucked in the apron, and two small leaves inset with tooled leather surfaces that emerge to hold perhaps a drink or hand of playing cards. The exterior of the apron is entirely inlaid with geometric marquetry in a chevron pattern bordered by a thin line of contrasting, twisted effect. Tapered legs, a signature Louis XVI design, are wrapped in a more complete cross section of marquetry that shows variegated graining to end at the floor in brass sabot feet. Cleaned, tightened, and polished with a French paste wax, this extraordinary occasional table is ready for your interior. Please view the detailed images to see the current condition as the marble shows a number of thin scratches. -
