Description
Dimensions: 33 ½” H x 39 ¾” W x 19 ⅜” D
A lovely commode from Sweden, circa 1830, crafted in book-matched mahogany and gray marble with exciting flashes of brass hardware that alludes to a Louis XVI influence met with the pared-down sensibility of the Gustavian. On top, a slab of gray, almost green stone is shaped to chamfered front corners that overhang the fluted pilasters. The three drawers feature bookmatched fronts in a delicate feathered pattern of grain outlined in brass trim, complemented by small ring-pulls and ribbon & bow escutcheons (however no key is present). The angled pilasters are enhanced with brass inlay within the fluting, crowned by a small rosette at the top. Square, tapering legs (descending from the angled pilasters) end in brass sabot feet at the floor. Please view the detailed images to see more of this extraordinary chest. Note the marble is in very good condition with only a few, fine scratches. -
