Description
George Nelson Executive Desk in Walnut and Aluminum for Herman Miller, c. 1950s
An icon of American modernism, this George Nelson Executive Desk embodies the precision and innovation that defined mid-century design. Crafted for Herman Miller, it pairs a beautifully figured walnut top and case with an architectural brushed aluminum base, achieving a visual balance of warmth and structure.
The desk features Nelson’s signature asymmetrical design—an airy cantilevered top supported by a tubular aluminum frame on one side, and a floating walnut file cabinet on the other. Both drawers lock completely with the original keys, and the bottom drawer is fitted with metal glides for smooth access and designed specifically to hold hanging files. The original Herman Miller logo is stamped on the top pull, and the desk retains its original label inside the top drawer. Each of the Four aluminum legs is self-leveling, a refined functional detail that ensures stability on any surface.
This example has been carefully restored, preserving its original integrity and lustrous walnut finish. A timeless statement of design intelligence and craftsmanship—perfect for collectors, architects, or anyone seeking an authentic piece of modern design history.
