Description
A rare and striking Art Deco "Paldao Series" dining table designed by Gilbert Rohde for Herman Miller, featuring walnut construction with inlaid curvilinear detailing and a leather-clad pedestal base, American, circa 1940. This masterpiece exemplifies Rohde’s innovative approach to modern design, combining sleek simplicity with luxurious materials and thoughtful craftsmanship.
The inlaid curvilinear detailing adds a subtle yet sophisticated decorative touch, reflecting the geometric elegance that defined the Art Deco and early modernist eras. Two leaves extend the table, making it as functional as it is beautiful, accommodating both intimate gatherings and larger dining settings.
The standout feature of this design is the leather-wrapped pedestal base, a bold contrast to the warm wood tones. The smooth, supple holly Hunt leather adds texture and depth while reflecting Rohde’s penchant for integrating unexpected materials in his designs.
This dining table is part of Gilbert Rohde’s celebrated "Paldao Series" for Herman Miller, a milestone collection that helped transition American furniture design from traditional to modernist styles. Its timeless design and exceptional construction make it a statement piece for collectors and admirers of mid-20th-century design.
In Mint Restored Condition, this table is a testament to the artistry and ingenuity of its time, offering a perfect blend of function and refined aesthetics. A true centerpiece for any dining room or design-forward interior.
