Description
This exquisite Art Deco frosted glass pendant chandelier, signed by Jules Leleu and crafted in France circa 1930, represents the peak of interwar design and craftsmanship. Known for his exceptional contributions to furniture and decorative arts, Leleu applies his characteristic balance of elegance and modernism to this refined lighting fixture.
The chandelier features frosted glass elements, providing a soft, diffused illumination that captures the ambient lighting effects central to Art Deco design. Its geometric Cubist-style detailing defines its character, with precise angular patterns that create a striking interplay between glasswork and light. The fluted diffuser adds texture and depth, while also enhancing its function by distributing light evenly across the room.
Nickeled bronze fittings serve as the perfect complement to the frosted glass components, introducing a sense of cool metallic sophistication to the design. The fittings exhibit a streamlined quality, consistent with the architectural minimalism of Art Deco, while adding durability and visual weight to the overall composition. The result is a harmonious blend of materials and finishes—glass and metal—that display the craftsmanship and attention to detail synonymous with Leleu’s work.
This chandelier is versatile, ideal for placement in elegant entryways, dining rooms, or living spaces. Its striking geometric motifs and understated materials allow it to blend seamlessly into both period-focused interiors and contemporary settings where Art Deco accents are desired. Signed by Leleu, this piece holds not only aesthetic value but also historical significance, marking it as a collectible artifact from one of France’s iconic designers during the golden era of decorative arts.
A testament to the refined sophistication of Art Deco craftsmanship and Leleu’s unmistakable design ethos, this chandelier is both functional illumination and an artistic centerpiece. Newly rewired to American Standards and with height that can be adjusted to suit, this chandelier accommodates 9 candelabra base bulbs, achieving up to 540 watts of light. In Excellent Vintage Condition. Signed Leleu on each shade.
