A coffee table in lacquered wood and glass, Italian craftsmanship from the 1940s, designed by Guglielmo Ulrich.
This occasional table fully embodies the style of Guglielmo Ulrich, a renowned Milanese architect who, in the first half of the 20th century, significantly contributed to the renewal of taste in bourgeois furnishings. Thanks to his education and particular personal sensitivity, Ulrich was known for combining the design of mass-produced items with unique or limited edition pieces.
This low table is inspired by the artisanal and refined character that characterized Ulrich's creative process for unique pieces. During its production, it shares with them the craftsmanship involved in working with wood, the distinctive thickness of the glass, and, in general, a meticulous attention to aesthetic balance.
The piece can be considered as a large crystal tray delicately placed on a wooden structure with organic shapes, resembling tentacles or roots shaped by nature itself. As in much of Ulrich's furniture, curved lines inspired by vegetation dominate, sometimes pushed to extremes but never grotesque, lending sinuosity to table legs and armrests.
This side table represents a summary of Guglielmo Ulrich's production, where his Danish surname - with all its aesthetic connotations - blends with the Italian lines of the Brera Academy, giving rise to a unique and unrepeatable style.
The piece is original and is offered after professional restoration.
