Description
The dining table model AT-304, designed by Hans J. Wegner and produced by Andreas Tuck in Denmark, is a rare and highly refined example of mid-century Danish craftsmanship. Wegner’s design language—marked by functional clarity, material harmony, and elegant proportions—is clearly expressed in this piece, which integrates premium woods with subtle structural detailing.
The tabletop is constructed from solid teak, a wood prized for its durability and richly figured grain. The surface displays a warm, reddish-brown tone with a gentle patina that has developed over time. Minor scratches and subtle surface wear are visible, consistent with age and careful use, contributing to the authenticity of its vintage condition.
The base of the table is made from beech, offering a lighter, honey-toned contrast to the darker teak surface. The beech legs are turned and subtly tapered, connected by two brass support rods that run beneath the table. These brass elements, finished in a muted matte gold tone, serve both a structural and decorative function. They add a touch of understated refinement while ensuring the table’s rigidity and long-term stability. Light tarnishing on the brass rods is present, further enhancing the aged character of the piece.
A key feature of the AT-304 is its extendable design, incorporating drop-leaf extensions on either end. When folded, the table remains compact and well-proportioned, suitable for smaller dining spaces. Fully extended, the leaves increase the table’s length significantly, allowing for additional seating and expanded functionality. The transition between the main tabletop and extensions is seamless, reflecting Wegner’s precision in engineering furniture that balances utility and aesthetics.
Hans J. Wegner, one of the central figures of Danish modernism, designed numerous iconic chairs and tables throughout the mid-20th century. His work with Andreas Tuck resulted in some of the most elegantly resolved wooden furniture pieces of the era. The AT-304 exemplifies this collaboration, combining restrained form with advanced joinery and thoughtful proportions.
