Description
Mid-century Danish rosewood and stainless steel table by Quistgaard
Danish, c. 1950
Height 46cm, width 78cm, depth 78cm
Designed by Jens Harald Quistgaard (1919–2008), a celebrated Danish designer and sculptor, this elegant coffee table showcases the timeless appeal of Scandinavian modern design. Quistgaard played a pivotal role in introducing this design movement to global audiences through his influential work with Dansk Designs.
The table boasts a striking square top crafted from rosewood. At each corner of the surface, stainless steel circles are inset, drawing attention to the legs that support the structure. These are connected by rosewood stretchers, each skilfully designed with tapered ends, creating a harmonious balance between materials.
This remarkable piece was produced by Richard Nissen, founder of Nissens Trævarefabrik, and demonstrates the meticulous craftsmanship synonymous with high-quality Danish furniture design.
Combining the organic beauty of wood with the polished elegance of metal, this table is a desirable addition to one’s collection of mid-century modern pieces.
A similar table by Quistgaard was sold in the Important 20th Century Design sale at Christie's New York on 16 June 2011 for $122,500.
