Jules Wabbes curved executive mahogany and jatoba desk 1958
-
Description
Designed by Jules Wabbes and manufactured by Le Mobilier Universel in Belgium in the late 1950s, this desk embodies structured charm. Its sturdy chrome-plated steel frame harmonises perfectly with the pronounced grain of the solid mahogany and jatoba wood. The drawers, equipped with discreet handles on their faces, support a robust steam-bent desktop. Each of these handles is adorned with Wabbes' signature. With ingenuity, Jules Wabbes skillfully unveiled typically concealed inner elements, thus complementing the desk's remarkable construction.
Jules Wabbes (1919 - 1974) is recognized as one of the pioneers of modern design in Belgium. Influenced by American designers like Edward Wormley, solid wood became his preferred material, lending his creations a luxurious appeal and timeless sophistication. Endowed with a keen eye for detail and remarkable technical mastery, his works remain enduring symbols of his artistic legacy.
