Description
Very elegant game table by Maxime Old, designed and carved in the late 1940s. It features a refined wooden oak veneered structure with clean, tapered legs accented with brass star details and a top reupholstered with olive green suedine. The piece perfectly illustrates Maxime Old’s signature approach, balancing architectural rigor with subtle contrasts and timeless sophistication. The table has been fully restored by our wood craftsman, and is in great condition.
Maxime Old (1910–1991) was one of the most celebrated French cabinetmakers and furniture designers of the 20th century. Trained at the École Boulle and mentored by Jacques-Émile Ruhlmann, he mastered the art of combining exceptional craftsmanship with simple, refined lines and high quality materials like oak, ebony, bronze, and leather. After World War II, Old became a bridge between traditional and modernist design, creating functional yet elegant pieces for private clients, ocean liners, embassies, and public commissions. His work, marked by clean forms and subtle curves, earned him international acclaim and numerous awards, including the Légion d’Honneur. -
