Pair of Chinese Chinoiserie Lacquered & Painted Side Tables, circa 1970

This elegant pair of Chinese Chinoiserie side table or plant stands, dating to circa 1970, features a distinctive architectural form finished in dark black lacquer and embellished with decorative painted floral motifs. Each stand is distinguished by a square top with softly beveled edges, a shaped, flared apron, and gracefully curved legs connected by horizontal stretchers for stability. The combination of sculptural lines and colorful ornamentation reflects the enduring influence of traditional Chinese decorative arts on Western Chinoiserie furniture.
The upper surfaces display delicate botanical decoration, while the aprons are adorned with stylized flowers, scrolling foliage, and a continuous geometric Greek key border. The floral designs, rendered in muted shades of pink, blue, and green, provide a subtle contrast against the deep, glossy black ground. Additional painted motifs extend down the legs, creating a coordinated decorative effect and enhancing the visual appeal of each stand.
Versatile and decorative, this pair can be used as plant stands, pedestal tables, or display stands for porcelain, vases, sculptures, and other objets d'art. Their compact proportions make them suitable for a living room, entryway, conservatory, or bedroom, where they can introduce an elegant Asian-inspired accent to both traditional and eclectic interiors. Each stand measures 19 inches tall by 18 inches wide by 18 inches deep.
