Pair of Directoire Style Gilt Bronze and Marble Guéridons

Description
A refined pair of French Directoire style gilt bronze guéridons with inset black fossil marble tops. Each table is raised on three elegantly tapered legs terminating in well-articulated paw feet, joined by flat strap X-form stretchers centered with rosette medallions. The legs are capped with crisply cast fluted collars. A double rope-twist bronze gallery encircles each marble top—a detail that distinguishes these from more ordinary examples.
The proportions are notably elegant: tall and slender rather than squat, with the attenuated silhouette characteristic of the best French bronzework. The gilt bronze retains a warm, honeyed patina throughout. The black fossil marble tops with subtle fossil inclusions are original to the tables. -
