Description
This refined Mid-Century Modern dining table was designed by the legendary Paul McCobb and realized for Calvin Furniture Company in the United States circa 1960. The table features an oval top and four volumetric rectangular legs all in solid handrubbed walnut. The legs are connected via brushed aluminum supports, providing an elegant material and tonal contrast to the warm wood tones. Superbly constructed and perfect in its elegant simplicity, this iconic Mid Century object would be a winning addition to any style of interior from classic Mid Century to contemporary. It comes with two leaves extending the overall length to 92", making the table perfectly suited for larger dinner parties. The table has been newly restored to mint condition and
Paul McCobb remains one of the most influential and celebrated American designers of the 20th Century, renowned for his purity of form and line, and his efficient and sophisticated pared down modernist aesthetic. McCobb designed for several companies, most notably Directional, the New York firm that also produced designs by other legends, such as Paul Evans and Vladimir Kagan. The trademark aesthetic attribute of McCobb designs is that he completely forsook ornamentation, instead creating pieces with unmistakable presence and gravitas by use of line and form alone. His furniture appears as au courant and contemporary looking today in any interior as it did when it was created more than 50 years ago.
