Description
Paul McCobb Console Solid Brass with Travertine Top, Irwin Collection By Calvin Group
A striking example of timeless American modernism, this rare Paul McCobb console from the Irwin Collection for the Calvin Group (Model C9315) blends sculptural elegance with thoughtful functionality. Designed in the 1950s, this iconic piece showcases McCobb’s masterful sense of proportion and minimalism while incorporating high-end materials rarely seen in production furniture of the time. The piece is finishe on all sides so it can float in a room.
Constructed with a bold architectural frame in solid brass, this console table exudes sophistication from every angle. The ebonized wood finish adds dramatic contrast and depth, giving the piece a refined yet grounded presence. Topping the structure is a stunning slab of travertine, offering a natural, textural surface that highlights the elegance of the design.
The console features two cantilevered drawers that appear to float within the frame—a hallmark of McCobb’s innovative approach to space and visual lightness. Below the drawers are two fixed shelves, ideal for display or storage. The console is finished on all sides, making it an ideal piece to float in the center of a room, behind a sofa, or along a wall in an entryway, living room, or dining space.
This vintage Paul McCobb piece is a perfect addition to any Mid-Century Modern, contemporary, or transitional interior. It combines the functionality of a storage cabinet with the refined aesthetic of a sculptural table. The mix of brass, stone, and wood is emblematic of the luxurious yet minimalist ethos of the Irwin Collection, developed by McCobb in collaboration with Directional and manufactured by Calvin Furniture.
Collectors prize McCobb's work for its clean lines, versatile proportions, and impeccable craftsmanship. This console is not just a piece of furniture—it is a museum-worthy example of American design history that continues to influence interiors today.
Whether used as a console table, media stand, sideboard, or entryway statement piece, this Paul McCobb Irwin Collection model C9315 elevates any space with its sculptural form and rich materiality.
