Description
Designed in 1972 by Pierre Chapo, the T22C “L’Œil” coffee table is one of the designer’s most recognizable creations, celebrated for its sculptural geometry and intelligent modularity. Crafted in solid wood, the design consists of two interlocking boomerang-shaped elements that together form a distinctive eye-shaped composition while also functioning independently as separate tables. The generous thickness of the top and the cylindrical legs give the piece a grounded architectural presence, balanced by the fluidity of its curved silhouette. This particular example displays a slightly deeper and richer tonal variation in the wood, further emphasizing the natural grain and sculptural character of the design.
Visible joinery and carefully resolved construction details reflect Chapo’s enduring commitment to traditional craftsmanship and structural honesty. Trained as both an architect and designer, Pierre Chapo developed a body of work that merged modernist clarity with the warmth and authenticity of solid wood construction. The T22C perfectly embodies this philosophy through its balance of geometry, functionality, and material expression. Both practical and highly sculptural, the table remains an iconic example of French collectible design from the 1970s and continues to resonate strongly within contemporary interiors. -
