RARE GREEN JAPANNED PEMBROKE TABLE

    A particular rare example of English green Japanning ,a term describing the copying of Chinese laquerwork in the18th century by English Craftsmen .The undercarriage having an extraordinary mix of Thomas Chippendale and Strawberry Hill. The top richly decorated with a reserve enclosing a chinoiserie scene of figures, animals and flowers above pierced latticed ends, on bamboo moulded legs and castors .In the eighteenth century it was not unusual for laquerwork to be broken down and used as decoration generally for other important pieces of furniture, as is the case for this pembroke table .

    Nearest examples of this type of English Laquer are those pieces made by Thomas Chippendale for Sir David Garrick ( The Actor ) for his Villa at Hampton , and the Green Table and Dressing Room Furniture for the National Trusts Nostell Priory .
