Description
Clean lines, sculptural proportions, and thoughtful craftsmanship define this exceptional walnut desk designed by Stanley Young for Glenn of California. A standout example of American mid-century modern design, this piece captures the effortless sophistication that made Stanley Young one of the most influential California modern designers of the 1950s and 1960s.
Executed in richly grained walnut, the desk features an elegantly floating top supported by sharply tapered legs and an architectural open-frame design that feels light, refined, and distinctly modern. The asymmetrical drawer configuration — one large file drawer paired with two smaller utility drawers — offers highly functional storage while maintaining the desk’s minimalist silhouette.
One of the defining details of this piece is its iconic Stanley Young drawer pulls. Crafted in walnut with inset brass accents, the pulls add a subtle sculptural quality and immediately identify the desk as an authentic Glenn of California design. The desk is beautifully finished on all sides, allowing it to float effortlessly in a room rather than being confined against a wall — ideal for a home office, executive office, creative studio, or sophisticated interior.
The Hobbs Modern restoration team has professionally restored this desk, bringing warmth and depth back to the walnut while preserving the integrity and character of the original craftsmanship. The result is a desk that feels both historically important and perfectly suited for contemporary living.
A rare and increasingly collectible piece of California modern furniture, this Stanley Young desk embodies the timeless appeal of mid-century modern design: functional, elegant, and quietly luxurious.
