Swedish Black-Painted Writing Desk with Brass Hardware, circa 1870
-
Description
A handsome antique Swedish writing desk, crafted in pine and painted in a deep black with a soft, aged patina. Dating from circa 1870–1890, this desk features a generous work surface supported by five functional drawers, two on each side and one central, each adorned with subtly molded panel details and original brass escutcheons.
All drawers are fitted with working locks; one key is included. The form is balanced and elegant, with gently tapered legs featuring delicate vertical millings that add structure and lightness. Despite its refined silhouette, the desk is notably heavy and solid, ensuring excellent stability.
The black-painted finish has been gently distressed over time, allowing traces of the warm pine beneath to show through and enhancing its antique character. This piece is as practical as it is beautiful, perfect for a study, library, or home office in both classic and transitional interiors.
