Description
Swedish 1870s Empire Revival birch wood sofa table with drop leaves, butterfly veneer and carved legs. Bask in the elegance of the Empire Revival era with this gorgeous Swedish 19th century Empire Revival sofa Table, circa 1870. Masterfully crafted, this table embodies the refined simplicity and stately allure of the period, making it a must-have for any antique enthusiast.
The table's standout feature is its butterfly birch veneer, showcasing intricate woodwork and a natural warmth that complements any interior. Its top is designed with drop leaves, offering flexibility for various uses and spaces. Providing practical storage are two dovetail drawers, fitted with inlaid black shield-shaped escutcheons—an exquisite detail that enhances the table's historic charm.
Balancing the table are expertly carved legs, a distinctive mark of Empire Revival craftsmanship. Their form flows seamlessly down to petite ebonized ball feet, grounding the piece with a tasteful contrast. A spindle-shaped cross stretcher connects the legs, reinforcing stability and adding to the design's symmetrical appeal. Lastly, side medallions enrich the table's visual interest, creating an aesthetically pleasing finish.
This Swedish Empire Revival birch sofa table is a manifestation of 19th-century artistry and craftsmanship. It's a versatile addition to any living space, equally functional as a statement piece or a practical serving area. Make this part of your home, and let its storied past and timeless design add a layer of sophistication to your decor. The top measures 58"W with the leaves up and 34"W with the leaves down. -
