Description
Margot de Taxco 1960’s Sterling Silver and Amethyst Bracelet. Sterling silver articulated bracelet with heart shaped links set with amethyst cabochons, each gauging approximately 10 mm, reverse stamped Margo de Taxco 5210, Sterling made in Mexico with Mexican eagle 16. Safety chain and hook clasp. Length: 7 inches. Item Weight: 39 grams. Margot Van Voorhies Carr was born in America and arrived in Taxco, Mexico, in 1937 where she met, and soon after, married Antonio Castillo of Los Castillo silversmiths whose work was highly collectible. She worked with Los Castillo and many of their early pieces show Margot’s unique designs. Her marriage to Antonio Castillo ended in 1948, at which time Margot set up her own studio and retail outlet in Taxco. She designed some of the most stunning hand wrought jewelry, and is well known for her silver and enamel works of art. Margot produced and designed jewelry until the later 1970’s. She passed away in 1985. Her works of art are some of the most highly collectible. Margot's clients included Lana Turner & John Wayne among many others. Margot’s pieces are shown in various Mexican collectible silversmith books, including the most recent book in 2010 entitled: Margot Van Voorhies “The Art of Mexican Enamelwork” by Penny Morrill.
