Description
For offer: A very rare large Flying Bat Brooch made from what appears to be gun metal & decorated with paste stones. All the paste stones are present along with the two cabochon red stones for the eyes. Made in England c.1900. This was in our personal collection for over 30 years. Bats ( Fledermaus) have long been a symbol of Good Fortune in many cultures. The back of the brooch shows it was most likely created as a belt buckle of some sort and was later converted into a brooch/pin with a C-hook closure. This is how we acquired it many years ago. The bat brooch weighs 2.8 ounces and measures just over 5" across the wings. Because of the weight and density, it is best worn on a heavier fabric such as a coat, cloak or felt hat. It would look amazing attached to a handbag! It could be the perfect accessory for that soon to come Halloween extravaganza...
