During the Victorian period and through the Art Nouveau period, naturalisitc themes such as plants, animals and insects were popular both int he USA as well as in Europe and Asia. The detailed effect of this hand wrought piece in the Japonesque style encompasses three colors of white, yellow and rose or pink gold. Marked on reverse Patent and I believe an illegible date but looks to be late 19th century. The grasshopper is 2 inches wide and weighs 5.1 dwt.
