Description
These rare pair of cufflinks are in the shape of left and right hands. The design is very Surrealist. The great Mexican modenist silver jewelry designer Antonio Pineda created them in the 1950's. Antonio began his career as an apprentice to William Spratling at age 14 years. After 8 years, in 1941, he left to open his own silver workshop and became extremely successful. At the annual Silver Fairs in Taxco, Mexico, Antonio Pineda was was constantly capturing 1st prize for his design and craftsmanship. In 1946 his work was exhibited with Margaret DecPatta and George Jensen at the Leigon of Honor in San Francisco. His jewelry was sold at Gumps for the next decade. There was also a large retrospective of his work at the Fowler Museum, UCLA in Los Angeles in 2008. Each cufflink is 1.25 inches tall by 1 inch wide.
