Seaman Schepps

American, 1881 - 1972
A revolutionary jewelry designer if there ever was one, Seaman Schepps opened his first shop in New York City's Lower East Side in 1926. An immigrant's son who dropped out of school at the age of 14 and received no formal training in jewelry design before opening his own shop, Schepps quickly began to make a name for himself by creating bright, bold, and unpredented works that eschewed subtelty in favor of style.

Rather than attempt to mimic the restrained, sometimes stuffy look that defined the era, Schepps' vivacious and vibrant designs often pitted massive gemstones inside 14-karat gold bracelets and brooches, attracting everyone from celebrities like Andy Warhol to royalty like the Duchess of Windsor and everyone in between. Known by some as “America’s court jeweler,” Schepps' cosmopolitan styled pieces were meant to be seen less as status symbols and more as statements. As such, his legacy as a trendsetter is being carried on today, and his unconventional works remain as sought after as it ever has been. Vintage Seaman Schepps Estate Jewelry remains popular worldwide.
