John Keal

John Keal (1917-1983) was an American industrial designer known for his contributions to modern furniture design in the mid-20th century. Born in Detroit, Michigan, Keal studied at the Detroit School of Arts and Crafts before starting his career in the furniture industry. He worked for several companies before joining Brown Saltman, where he designed some of his most iconic pieces. Keal's designs were characterized by their sleek lines and use of modern materials, such as metal and fiberglass. His innovative designs, including the Sling Chair and the Walnut and Leather Armchair, helped to shape the aesthetic of mid-century modern furniture design. Today, Keal is remembered as a pioneer of modern furniture design, and his legacy continues to inspire contemporary designers.
