Hester Bateman

Hester Bateman (1708-1794) was an English silversmith who worked during the Georgian era. She was born Hester Needham in London and married John Bateman in 1732. After her husband's death in 1760, Hester took over the family business and expanded it with the help of her sons. Her work is characterized by elegant simplicity and precise craftsmanship, and she became one of the most successful female silversmiths of the 18th century. Her legacy lives on today, with many of her pieces considered to be highly valuable and sought after by collectors.
