Niels Koefoed

Danish
Niels Koefoed (b. 1929) is a distinguished Danish furniture designer renowned for his work in the mid-century Scandinavian modern tradition. His family had roots in furniture manufacturing—his father, Einar Koefoed, founded a factory in Hornslet in the 1920s.

During the 1950s and 1960s, Koefoed crafted elegant dining chairs and tables using hardwoods such as teak, rosewood, and cherry. Iconic models include the “Peter” chair (1957) and the “Eva” chair (1964), the latter characterized by its tall, graceful silhouette and feminine form—narrow shoulders and full hips.

His designs remain highly sought after today, both in vintage markets and through authorized reproductions by Danish brands. Niels Koefoed’s furniture embodies the refined craftsmanship, organic form, and timeless simplicity that define Scandinavian modern design.
