Description
This rare credenza and desk for a standing writer has a super structure containing four drawers flanking a central niche above a cabinet section with one shelf and a sliding access to the upper section of the lower body. Typically the Sicilian pieces have reserves with a lighter background with finely painted floral and bird motifs. Outlined with gilded pastiglia in relief. The preferred colors were light and dark blue and orangey-reds. This example with finely painted floral and bird subjects is from the areas outside Palermo where the nobles had their country villas. The condition of this piece is of rare quality.
