    Provenance: Descended in the Swett family. A transcribed note still owned by the family states By Mrs. Mary Swett's will you are to receive a brass banded wine refrigerator which belonged to your father's grandfather Gray and given to me by Colonel S. Swett. Colonel Samuel Swett of Boston and Cambridge was a writer on maritime affairs who married Lucia Gray, daughter of William Gray, a Boston merchant. The cooler descended to Lucia Gray Swett who was the wife of Francis Alexander, the portraitist.

    Reference: A very similar wine cooler that descended in the Sergeant family , and may be depicted in Henry Sergeant's painting Dinner Party appears in The Magazine Antiques, May, 1982, page 1172. That wine cooler is now in the collection of The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.
