Description
On offer is an impressively large and finely cast Sino-Tibetan gilt bronze statue of Vajrasattva Bodhisattva. The deity is depicted seating in the lotus position in his full bejeweled attire with an ornate headdress. He holds a thunderbolt (vajra) in his right hand close to his heart, and a bell (ghanta) in his left hand resting near his waist. The vajra and the ghanta represent indestructible purity, compassion and wisdom, necessary for attaining enlightenment. His face with serene expression is cast great detail and is of superb quality. Some poly-chrome on the back of his still headdress remains. The double-lotus base is sealed and incised with a double-vajra symbol. Vajrasattva is a supreme Buddhist deity who delineates the purity of the enlightened mind. He manifests the purity of speech, mind and body, and encompasses the ability to extinguish spiritual impurities.
The statue is cast in two parts. The Bodhisattva sits atop the double lotus throne with three fitted prongs, one of which was broken and missing. - More Information
