          G. P. Schafer Architect is an award-winning, New York City-based residential architecture and design firm that takes the best of traditional architecture and translates it for the kind of connected, welcoming spaces that suit modern life. Architect and historic preservationist Gil Schafer founded the firm in 2002, and has since undertaken projects across the country, working on the design and building of new homes, as well as major historic residential renovation and restoration projects. Believing strongly in the integration of architecture, landscape, and interior decoration, the firm regularly collaborates with some of the best landscape designers and interior decorators working today.

The grandson and great, great grandson of architects, Gil grew up with a strong sense of how a well-built, thoughtfully-designed home can bring pleasure to daily life. He is the author of the bestselling books The Great American House: Tradition for the Way We Live Now and A Place To Call Home: Tradition, Style, and Memory in the New American House, both published by Rizzoli.

Gil serves on the boards of the Yale School of Architecture Dean’s Council and the Thomas Jefferson Foundation at Monticello and was President and Chairman of the Board of the Institute of Classical Architecture & Art from 1999-2006. G. P. Schafer Architect is on Architectural Digest’s AD100 list of the world’s best architects and designers and Gil is the recipient of Veranda’s “Art of Design Award.” His work and the firm’s projects have been widely published both here in the U. S. and abroad, and he regularly lectures around the country on the continued relevance of classical residential design.
