New York, ca. 1765-1775.
Mahogany, poplar, slip-seat frame
Condition: Few knee returns replaced, otherwise in fine condition with minor imperfections. Leather old but not original.
This rare example is embellished with three carved shells on the crest rail and knees. The carved diamond form and scroll pattern splat and the gadrooned front rail are other features found on New York chairs from the Rococo period. -
