Russell Stool - Bespoke

$ 2,950
  • Description
    The "Russell" stool, a handcrafted recreation of one of Gordon Russell's earliest and most successful Cotswold School designs, crafted in white oak by Wooster and Essex having an upholstered seat over chamfered legs and stretchers, the aprons with Cupid's bow scalloping, featuring pegged construction and available in a variety of finishes, the example illustrated above in raw white oak with brown linen upholstery.
    Gordon Russell began making furniture after he returned from the First World War to the village of Broadway, where his family owned the famous Lygon Arms, an ancient coaching inn, and where he set up his workshop. His earliest furniture was in the Arts and Crafts style, such as the present stool, but he was truly a 20th century designer and embraced the use of technology when needed. "Teaching machines manners" is how he summed up his production. Wooster and Essex is reproducing the Russell stool exclusively for Yew Tree House.

    It will take 3-4 weeks to make this piece.

Message from Seller:

Yew Tree House Antiques was launched in 1991, fueled by a passion for collecting the unexpected. Kevin Kleinbardt and Ahna Petersen, with independent backgrounds in furniture and art history respectively, joined forces to focus on pieces with a “soulfulness of character,” as Ahna likes to say.
