PORTRAIT OF AGLAÉ DAUVET, FRANCE, 18TH CENTURY, CIRCLE OF MICHEL HUBERT DESCOURS (1707–1775)
Portrait of a young girl holding her doll in her left hand. Her right hand points to a subject not depicted in the canvas and her arm rests on a table with a red cloth where playing cards are displayed. In the background is a stone column to the left.
On the back of the canvas is noted 'H. Rigaud. 1659-1743 Provenant du château du Sablé de Mr. Le Duc. de Chaulnes'. The Château de Sablé is located in the Loire and was occupied by the Duke of Chaulnes throughout the 19th century.
The canvas is on a later stretcher and has been relined, though not recently. Some small paint loss and old retouching, see photographs.
Framed in a 19th century gilt frame.
