Description
We are delighted and proud to offer this very unique and special hand-carved painted Tea Screen by Lucia Mathews, which still bears the original Furniture Shop label. This remarkable, graceful work is a two sided standing wood panel decorated with oil paint and gold-leaf, bearing a poppy and leaf motif on the borders.
This work has been included in several notable books, including the 1972 and 1980 editions of “Mathews, Masterpieces of the California Decorative Style” by Harvey L. Jones, and the 1983 California Impressionism Book published by the Oakland Museum of California.
This charming and elegant work has also been included in several noteworthy exhibitions at the Oakland Museum of California, including “Arthur and Lucia Mathews: The California Decorative Style from February 2, 1985 through April 28th, 1985, and “California as Muse: The Art of Arthur and Lucia Mathews from October 28, 2006 through March 25, 2007. -
