Japan England c. 1675.
A rare small sized, Japanese Black and Gilt Lacquer Cabinet of particular high quality and proportion standing upon the original William and Mary Period Robustly Carved Baroque Silvered stand.
It was quite normal for just the cabinet to be imported from the East and an English base prepared by local craftsmen to suit the fashionable upper class taste. This form of carving was popular in England from about 1675 to 1680.
Note - Lacquer or Urushi is the sap extracted from some Eastern Trees.
