Description
Mexican mosaic dining table / writing desk covered in mirrored gold tile and white marble tile in reversed elliptical designs probably late 1950s..
The tile top is bordered in bleached mahogany and sets on two mahogany cones mounted on elevated polished cast bronze bases.
The thousands of hand-cut marble and gold tiles are individually set at odd angles to accentuate the textured surface and create a shimmering effect when lit.
The table reminds me of a Mexican park that Genaro Alvarez created in tile in the 1950s. He is considered one of Mexico's finest mosaic designer. I don't believe he created this table but
his work certainly influenced its design.
The table is in excellent vintage condition. -
