American 'Phaeton' Carriage Seat

Phaeton is the term for an open carriage drawn by a single horse or a pair. With oversized rear wheels and minimal body; it was fast and somewhat dangerous. The paint color is original; as are the wooden framing, iron straps, and sanitized horsehair stuffing. The upholstery fabric is fresh and new. Found in rural Litchfield County, Connecticut; there is no maker's mark or label. 19th century historical memorabilia repurposed as casual seating furniture.
