Description
A large sculptural stoneware pitcher by Italian ceramic artist and designer Guido Gambone (1909-1969) circa 1950s. This vessel takes an elegant sculptural form from the classic antiquity form, seen in both Greek and Persia. An elongated and semi-opened mouth sprout ends in the loop handle. The surface is decorated with horizontal and vertical lines in aubergine color with a subtle zigzag effect. The interior was glazed in a slight greenish yellow color to five a mysterious glow. The base is marked with Gambone/Italy as well the donkey insignia.
There is also available for sale an dove shape open vessel en suite with the same decoration. A rare and beautiful piece for the disconcerting collector. -
