  • Description
Cabinet in mahogany and lacquered hardboard in two shades of gray produced by André Sornay in the 1960s. Composed of two sliding door units in mahogany and hardboard lacquered in light gray on the lower part and darker gray on the upper part (slight cracks on the lacquer), opening with sliding doors on the front onto lacquered shelves. Some minor defects, small paint gaps on the rear part of the middle section, some marks on the wood on the top of the cabinet. A good storage capacity, a rare model with recognizable aesthetics from its creator.

André Sornay (1902-2000), French designer born in Lyon, very early on chose modernity in his creations. Its combinable furniture, very sober, with its own functional assembly system. He invented "nailing" in the 1930s and filed for the patent, brass, copper or iron nuts are visible on the frame of the structure, they serve as fixing and decoration, a process which will become his trademark. This major and avant-garde actor is the subject of various exhibitions, notably at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in 2004.
