Description
A shallow ceramic bowl from Sukhothai period from central Thailand circa 14-15th century. The dish has a white slip surface and a dark blue underglaze decoration of three circular ring around the rim and a double ring medallion in the center circling a fish. There are five spur marks on the top surface, in keeping with the stacking method used in the kiln during Sukhothai period. It has a primitive flavor with its minimalistic design and appears unexpected modern. From a noted collection. Provenance available to the buyer.
For reference on the firing method and also a similar bowl, see page 49-52; and 78 of the book: Southeast Asian Ceramics Ninth Through Seventeenth Centuries by Dean F. Frasche; Asian House Gallery. -
