PAIR of Japanese Satsuma Vases

$ 2,500
  • Description
    Meiji Period (1868-1912) from one of the finest Japanese makers for export to the European market; a pair of bronze-mounted intricately hand-painted earthenware vases. Each contains an interior metal European marker: "Lamp Moderateur Perfectionnee". Presumably their original purpose was as vessels for oil lamps. They are very appealingly scaled for a variety of decorative uses. These vases may be non-invasively electrified at buyers expense, preserving their artifact value.
